I guess they represent higher authorities to me and there is also a little of this - I know for a fact that at no time do they think about their own marital/emotional partners, children, grades, lunch (and precisely because of all of the above I hate my husband intensely full time, six days a week),... i.e. that they will give me their maximum attention. Of course, there are such women doctors. However, the most important thing for me is that I have good communication with the person who will keep an account of my health (perhaps even more important than her/his expertise), that I get answers to all my questions, which are often superfluous and comical, that I understand what I am told and asked of me. Well, that doesn't depend so much on gender as on character, performance, emotional charge (all "my" doctors somehow remind me of me at least a little,... THANK GOD FOR THESE SITES and of course my doctor... She was also good, we just didn't understand each other...
